Canon BJC 6500 take-apart instructions

Disclaimer: If you are not happy and confident taking complex pieces of equipment apart and putting them back together then do not attempt what is shown here. Inside these printers you can be exposed to hazardous electrical voltages there are also sharp edges that you can cut yourself on. If you do attempt it please remember that I have no liability or responsibility of any kind.

Taking these printers apart is not difficult, but you do need to know where certain things are and you need a good well-lit working area so that you have plenty of room to work. Read these pages in full to be sure that you fully understand what's involved.

This next bit is the hardest - read the instructions before going any further.

There is one screw to remove, and then 2 plastic clips and two plastic lugs to release. These hold the whole of the printer mechanism into its bottom case.

The mechanism is HEAVY and the case is light so you may need a helper to assist with this. The waste ink tank is in the bottom of the case and is VERY MESSY. Also, the base of the printer mechanism is messy, part of it will be covered in waste ink.

BEFORE going any further get some old newspapers (think layers) ready to put the mechanism onto when it is removed. If you don't then your partner, wife, girlfriend will not like you!

The single screw is at the right hand end of the printer when viewed from the back

Now those four clips/lugs. Two are easy, two are difficult.

Here's the first, right next to the screw you just removed, look how it projects over the metal of the mechanism, you have to squeeze it in and then lift the mechanism. This is not easy as there are other clips still holding it down.

the other similar clip is at the opposite end of the printer, just below where you removed the wires, if you follow the wires you'll find it
